Frequently asked.

The second Friday of every month, at 122 South E Street, Exeter, California. The date is never announced separately because it never changes — the home page always shows the next one.

Two exceptions to expect: June is the Derby Social rather than a tasting, and the club occasionally replaces a month’s meeting with a field trip to a distillery.

By introduction. A member puts your name forward; if a place is available, you’re invited. There is a request form at the bottom of the home page, but it is a way of being remembered rather than a way of being admitted.

New members are inducted with a short ceremony and given a pin.

No. The code asks members to share what they know and stay curious about what they do not, which is written the way it is on purpose. Nights regularly run through regions and styles most of the room has never tasted.

Yes. Your guest scans the same code everyone else does, enters their name and email, and chooses you from the member list as the person who invited them.

You are responsible for your guest’s $25.00. It lands on your account automatically when they sign in — there is nothing to hand anyone at the door.

Guests fill in the full scorecard and their notes go into the record with everyone else’s. The verdict — the bottle that wins the night — is decided by the members’ rankings, and guest averages are shown next to the member numbers rather than mixed into them.

This keeps a night where somebody brought four friends from quietly outvoting the club.

Dues are $25.00 per member per month. The charge is applied automatically each month; you pay the Treasurer directly, and he records it.

You can pay several months — or a year — in advance. Your account simply sits in credit and the monthly charge draws it down.

In the Back Room. Sign in with your email and your balance is at the top, along with every charge and payment on your account. You see only your own.

Tell the Treasurer. He can adjust any account at any time — the ledger was brought over mid-year, so a few accounts needed squaring up by hand.

It opens the night’s scorecard on your phone. Members enter their email — no password, no code. Guests tap through the guest door instead.

The scorecard only opens on the night itself. Scan it on any other day and it tells you when the next one is. Results from the last night stay readable in between.

Each pour gets a score from 1 to 10 and, if you have one, a single line of your own words. At the end you rank the night first, second and third.

Rankings are worth 3, 2 and 1 points. The verdict goes to the most ranking points, with the average score as the tiebreak — so the night’s favorite is what the room actually voted for, not whatever a couple of generous scores dragged upward.

Yes, as many times as you like while voting is open. Submitting again replaces your earlier card rather than adding a second one. Whiskey opens up; so should your score.

Once the host closes voting for the night, cards are final.

The members vote on the theme. The Bottle Steward builds the lineup from it, and the Cocktail Steward chooses the opening cocktail. A third member keeps the rotation for who brings the light meal. Who currently holds each office is listed on The Club page.
